Water Treatment Plant Project

Location: Nevada, USA
Completion Date: Originally Installed 1994 / Expanded 2003

A major water treatment facility serving a large metropolitan area required a highly dependable leak detection system to monitor over a mile of chemical distribution pipelines.

The facility treats raw water using eight different chemicals and provides approximately 15% of the region’s drinking water. Maintaining the integrity of the system was essential to ensuring safe water delivery, avoiding environmental hazards, and minimizing downtime. The leak detection solution had to be both chemically resilient and capable of operating in challenging environmental conditions, such as condensation and contamination.

    • Continuous monitoring of chemically diverse pipelines

    • Rapid leak detection and precise localization

    • Chemically resistant sensors with long service life

    • System operable under condensation and dusty conditions

    • Scalable solution to support future facility expansions

  • PermAlert supplied its PAL-AT leak detection system equipped with AGW-Gold sensing cables throughout the plant’s chemical distribution network. The AGW-Gold cable was strategically placed at the 6 o’clock position inside containment piping for optimal leak detection. Its rugged, non-conductive design ensures resistance to chemical exposure and prevents false alarms caused by dirt or moisture. The PAL-AT panel monitors each chemical circuit independently, helping operators quickly identify and address specific issues. Thanks to its sonar/radar-style sensing, the system can detect growing leaks—even in wet or contaminated environments. Its long-term reliability led to the system's expansion alongside facility growth.
